Shopping and spending: when buying becomes a habit

Buying something new gives a quick lift, and with one-click checkout and buy now, pay later, that lift is never more than a tap away. For some people it turns into a habit that costs far more than money: the parcels, the guilt and the arguments.

Signs shopping is running the show

  • You buy things to change how you feel
  • You hide parcels or receipts, or leave things unopened
  • The buzz fades quickly and regret follows
  • Buy now, pay later or credit card balances keep creeping up
  • Money has become a source of arguments at home

How hypnotherapy helps

Compulsive shopping is usually about the feeling, not the thing you buy. In our sessions we find out what the buying is doing for you, then build other ways to get that feeling, so the urge to browse and buy loses its pull.

It works best alongside practical steps you choose to take, such as deleting saved cards or unsubscribing from sale emails. You still make the choices, but they stop feeling like a constant battle.

Common questions

Is shopping addiction a real thing?

Many people find their shopping hard to control, whatever name it’s given. If it’s hurting your finances or relationships, it’s worth taking seriously.

How many sessions will I need?

Three sessions suits most people, as it gives us time to work on the habit and on the feelings behind it.

How do sessions work?

We meet one to one over Zoom, and you get a recording of the hypnosis to listen to between sessions.
