Adam Cox, addiction expert
Adam Cox is a clinical hypnotherapist with 17 years in practice and postgraduate qualifications in clinical hypnotherapy, both at Distinction. He founded Addiction Experts to give people honest, practical help with habits and addictions, from vaping and phone use to gambling and alcohol.
This page sets out his qualifications, his experience, his podcast, his work in the media and what clients say, so you can decide for yourself whether he is the right person to help you.

Qualifications
Hypnotherapy is not a regulated profession in the UK, so training varies a great deal. Adam took the university route and is one of a small number of UK hypnotherapists with postgraduate qualifications in clinical hypnotherapy.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Distinction, London College of Clinical Hypnosis and the University of West London
- Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Distinction, London College of Clinical Hypnosis and the University of West London
- Degree in psychology
Distinction is the highest grade awarded on both courses.
Experience with habits and addictions

Adam has spent 17 years helping people change habits they feel stuck with. He built his reputation in private practice on Harley Street in London, and now works one to one over Zoom with clients across the UK and around the world.
His clients include public figures, business leaders and medical professionals. He never names a client, and discretion is part of how he works.
Alongside his one-to-one work he founded Phobia Guru, where he has worked with more than 1,000 people with phobias, and HypnoSlimming, which focuses on weight and eating habits. Every guide on Addiction Experts links to the NHS and UK charity advice it draws on.
The Hypnotist podcast
In March 2020 Adam started The Hypnotist, a podcast made of real hypnotherapy sessions rather than talk about them. It has passed 20 million downloads, reaches more than 350,000 listeners a month and has over 2,300 free sessions, many of them on habits, cravings and confidence.
Listeners rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Apple Podcasts, from more than 450 ratings in the UK, the USA and Canada (checked October 2026).
In the media
Broadcasters and newspapers regularly ask Adam to explain habits and addiction, often when a new kind of addiction first makes the news.
The binge-watching story
In January 2020 The Telegraph reported on three people Adam had worked with at his Harley Street clinic who could not stop binge-watching TV box sets. The story was picked up around the world, from The National in the UAE to newspapers in Canada and the entertainment site Screen Rant, and Adam went on BBC Radio 2 to talk about TV addiction with Jeremy Vine.

What clients and listeners say

Adam was able to create a personal session entirely bespoke for me, I felt safe, understood, and the hypnotherapy was exactly what I was hoping for!
I found Adam on Spotify, but it was working with Adam over 3 sessions that really gave me a breakthrough. Adam has given me my identity and confidence back. He’s Fantastic!
I’m beyond delighted, he can craft a session that is even more accurate than I can put into words. I can feel the change and shift in my body, not just my mind.
I’ve tried many other “hypnosis” recordings over the years with no success and The Hypnotist actually works. I’ve even recommended him to others. Thank you!
Really professional, inspiring and life changing. Thank you !
It’s a great introduction to hypnosis for anyone who might be unsure about it – it’s like having a really relaxing conversation with a wise friend.

How Adam helps with habits and addictions
For habits and cravings, such as vaping, nail biting, sugar or phone use, hypnotherapy can be used on its own. Sessions focus on how you feel about the habit, what sets it off and what you would rather do instead.
Alcohol, drugs, gambling and medicines
For these, Adam works alongside your GP or NHS treatment, never instead of it. If you drink heavily every day, or take benzodiazepines, sleeping pills or opioids, do not stop suddenly. Speak to your GP first, because stopping too quickly can be dangerous.
If you are in danger or someone has collapsed, call 999. If you are struggling to cope, you can call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night.
Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical care, and it does not suit everyone. The £49 consultation call is there so you can find out whether it is right for you before you book sessions.
